Hard times in Palestine. Unable to get his judicial license renewed by the authorities, Abu Laila now works as a cab driver. As in so many films, his taxi gives him a window on a society in disarray. And as in so many other films, today is a fateful day when he must get home in time for his daughter’s seventh birthday. The trailer’s combination of travelogue and catalog of Palestinian headaches is only slightly undercut by star Mohammed Bakri’s resemblance to Smilin’ Stan Lee.
