A theatrical trailer for Spike Jonze’s latest movie seems a little rich. The short is only 35 minutes long. It premiered at Sundance last night. The melancholy-looking affair may have been inspired by Jonze’s relationship with Michelle Williams, shills Absolut vodka in some way, and features a little plug-to-socket action. The song is “There are Many of Us” by Aska Matsumiya.

Away We Go has a trailer, and the 2009 Edinburgh International Film Festival has an opening film. In a happy coincidence, that opening film is Away We Go.
Sam Mendes‘ follow-up to Revolutionary Road has been attracting plenty of notice because a) it won’t be as heavy going as Revolutionary Road and b) it’s written by husband and wife Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida. The film is a road movie, with couple John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph trying to find some place to raise their first-born, and discovering a little bit of America on the way.
Regardless of what Warners may have done to Spike Jonze’s folly, his vision appears to have remained intact. If the perennial magic hour photography and 21st century Muppets don’t get you, then Arcade Fire’s music will. Kids of certain ages, beware. This looks more like a movie meant for your WOXY.com-listening parents than for anybody weened on Yo Gabba Gabba.
