Trailerama: World Peace and Other 4th Grade Achievements

February 17, 2010

The World Peace game is a “political science simulation” whose participants have to make four competing ountries get along. Chris Farina‘s interesting-looking documentary follows teacher John Hunter as he administers the exercise with his fourth grade students. Watching this, one wonders whether a better film might take on how long the lessons stick with these kids as they mature. Due to screen at the 2010 SXSW Film Festival.

Trailerama: The Parking Lot Movie

February 8, 2010

A parking lot doesn’t seem like a promising idea for a documentary. Then again, did a car wash seem like a promising idea for a riotous urban musical comedy? Exactly. Filmmakers Meghan Eckman and Christopher Hlad set up at a parking lot in Charlottesville, Virginia. Through its Italian-American owner, they get a lesson in the economics of parking. Through the parking attendants, we get a microcosm of American life. No sniggering at the back, please. Screening at the 2010 SXSW Film Festival.
