Trailerama: The Myth of the American Sleepover

Summer’s here and the time is right for a coming of age film. Actually, summer is almost over in David Robert Mitchell’s film. Four youngsters realize that means if there’s an itch they want scratched, they’d better hurry up. What should be the recipe for an American Pie retread actually appears to be something quite magical, thanks to a bright young cast, a cool ur-Belle & Sebastian soundtrack and the occasional nouvelle vague flourish. Although now in Los Angeles, Mitchell insisted upon filming in his Detroit hometown, giving hope to regional Linklater-wannabes everywhere. Screening at the 2010 SXSW Film Festival.
