If the face looks familiar, that’s because Maria Onetto was the Antonioni-esque mystery at the center of Lucrecia Martel’s The Headless Woman. In this debut by Martel’s assistant Natalia Smirnoff, she plays a suburban housewife with a gift for solving jigsaw puzzles. Teaming up with an obsessed millionaire gives her a newfound sense of worth. Smirnoff guides the narrative with restrained performances and an appreciation of Argentina’s old world bloodlines.
