Work in Progress: George A. Romero’s Survival of the Dead

George A. Romero has either a) run out of ideas or b) can’t get financing for anything that doesn’t have zombies attached. Of course, few horror directors have mined the resonance of their creations quite so effectively. As one actress says in this featurette, “It always carries a social weight.” You also have to admire Romero’s commitment to the rough ‘n’ tumble underground from which he crawled. What exactly happens in his fifth zombie epic isn’t quite so clear. There appears to be some friction between rustic locals and island visitors.
